Welcome to Department of Child Dental Health

I wish to warmly welcome you to the Department of Child Dental Health. The Department is composed of 2 units – Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.

Our vision is to be the center of global distinction in training, research and clinical services in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. We are most pleased that in the past four (4) decades, we have contributed to the graduation of numerous dental surgeons who are involved in academia and clinical practice in Nigeria and around the world.

The Department is composed of highly qualified and skilled academic staff with great commitment and dedication to teaching, training and research. Over the years, extensive collaborative studies have been conducted both locally and internationally. The non – academic staff provide the skills and support needed by both academic staff and students. We encourage our students to be self -motivated and their learning student centered and driven.

About the Department of Child Dental Health

The Department of Child Dental Health was created on August 1st, 1980. It was carved out of the Department of Restorative Dentistry. The Department is composed of 2 units: Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. The Department trains dental students in Orthodontics and pediatric Dentistry which is achieved by lectures, seminars, laboratory work and clinical practice in the fourth, fifth and sixth clinical years of the dental course. In the last 40 years, the Department has trained more than 50 pediatric Dentists and Orthodontists, who are gainfully employed in both State and Federal Institutions and also in countries abroad. The Department continues to engage in high quality research. Several eminent scholars have taught in the Department. The first Head of Department was the late Professor J.O. Adenubi. The Department presently has 10 academic staff (lecturers) – 5 in Pediatric Dentistry and 5 in Orthodontics. The Department continues to be involved in quality research and collaborative studies with other specialties
