Head of Department - Prof. P. O. Ayanbadejo
Professor Omowunmi Ayanbadejo gained admission into the University of Lagos in 1980 for preliminary studies in science, and the following year commenced her degree course in Dental Surgery and graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 1986. I completed my residency at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, in 1996 with a dissertation on the periodontal manifestations in diabetic patients in LUTH and was awarded a Fellowship at the National Postgraduate College. (FMCDS 1996) She also possesses a Master’s in Public Health
I initially started my career as an associate lecturer and fully joined the university in 1999 as a lecturer I in periodontology in the Department of Preventive Dentistry. Over the years, I was promoted to a Senior lecturer, Associate lecturer and full professor in 2019. I am also an honorary consultant to the affiliate Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
Professor O. Ayanbadejo has published widely in periodontal and other related journals with well over fifty publications. She has been awarded as best lecturer in the faculty, she has co-authored chapters in books, and she is on the advisory board of a few journals, including the faculty of Dental Sciences, College of Medicine of the University of Lagos. She has presented at both local and international conferences. Her main research interests are minimally invasive periodontal treatment, the perio-systemic disease relationship, and Genetics in aggressive periodontitis. Together with Professor K. A. Umeizudike, she is a co-researcher in an international collaborative study on HIV patients. She is presently the substantive head of the Department of Preventive Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences.

The Department of Preventive Dentistry believes in the holistic approach to Oral Health Prevention and management of Oral Diseases and improve the quality of life of the Nigerian community as a whole.
